Help & FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

How do I buy an eBook?

Once you click on a book, you will be taken to a page showing information about the title you have selected. The page will have a large Add to Bag button. If you want to purchase the book, click the button.

The screen will then show how many items are in your shopping bag. If you click Add More, the number of copies of that eBook will increase. This is useful if, for example, you want to read the book yourself and purchase another copy as a present for someone else.

If you want to remove an item from your shopping bag, click Go to Checkout. On the next page you will see the book details on the left and an X on the right. Click the X to remove that item.

Your shopping bag will remember what you have added, so you can return to The Fiction Bookstore and choose more books.

Once you are happy with your selection, enter your email address. We need this to process your order and provide access to your eBooks.

Click Checkout and, if you are purchasing a paid book, enter your payment details.

If you have bought from us before, you may see a green Link button offering the payment details you previously used. If you want to use a different payment card, click the three dots (...) to the right and select Pay without Link.

When you are ready, click the Pay button at the bottom of the screen.

Once your payment has been processed, the next screen will show a list of the eBooks you purchased together with a download button.

Click the download button and choose where you want to save the book's ePub file.

Please remember where you save it. You'll need to find the file when you transfer it to your eReader or reading app.

What happens after I buy an eBook?

Once you have downloaded the ePub file, and remembered where you saved it, click the How Do I Read My eBook? button at the top of this page.

There you'll find simple instructions for getting your new book onto your preferred device or reading app.

Can I read your books on a Kindle?

Definitely.

Although many readers equate "eBook" with "Kindle book", you can also put an ePub purchased from The Fiction Bookstore onto your Kindle.

Click the How Do I Read My eBook? button at the top of this page for instructions.

Can I read your books on an iPhone, iPad or Android device?

Yes. You don't need a Kindle.

Your book is downloaded as an ePub file, an industry-standard format supported by many eReaders and reading apps.

Click the How Do I Read My eBook? button at the top of this page for more information.

Can I read your books on Kobo or NOOK?

Yes.

The books you download from The Fiction Bookstore are supplied as ePub files, which are supported by Kobo, NOOK and many other eReaders and reading apps.

Click the How Do I Read My eBook? button at the top of this page for more information.

Do I need special software to read an ePub?

Usually not.

Your existing reading app will probably handle ePub files, as will most mainstream eReaders.

If you're not sure, click the How Do I Read My eBook? button at the top of this page for more information.

Can I download my book more than once?

Yes.

When you purchase a book from The Fiction Bookstore, your purchase is recorded in your Order History.

If you need another copy of the ePub file, use the link in your Order Confirmation email to access your Order History. From there you can download your previous purchases again.

What if I lose my eBook?

Don't panic. Your book hasn't disappeared forever.

When you place an order, you will receive an Order Confirmation by email. Please retain this email.

At the bottom of the email is a link to your Order History Page.

If your book disappears from your eReader or reading app, or you accidentally delete the original ePub file, click this link.

You will be asked for your email address and a six-digit security code will be emailed to you. Enter the code to access your Order History.

From there, you can download your previous purchases from The Fiction Bookstore again.

Why should I buy here instead of Amazon?

Almost all our books are also available from Amazon, Apple Books, Kobo, Barnes & Noble, Smashwords and many other digital bookstores.

If you prefer buying from one of those retailers, that's absolutely fine.

The main differences when buying directly from The Fiction Bookstore are price and choice.

Because you are purchasing directly from the author and publisher, our prices may be lower than those available through other retailers. We may also offer exclusive editions, collections and book bundles that aren't available elsewhere.

You also have direct access to Reader Support if you need help.

And, of course, buying directly from us helps support the creation and publication of more books.

Is it safe to buy directly from The Fiction Bookstore?

Yes. The Fiction Bookstore is owned by Brittle Media Ltd, the independent publishing company owned by author Tom Kane.

Payments are securely processed by Stripe, a major international payment-processing company used by millions of businesses around the world.

Your payment information is handled through Stripe's secure payment system. The Fiction Bookstore does not process your card payment itself.

Once your payment has been successfully processed, we receive the information needed to fulfil and manage your order.

So you can concentrate on choosing your next book while Stripe takes care of the payment.

Where else can I buy Tom Kane's books?

We're not trying to imprison our readers inside our own book ecosystem.

If you would rather buy through Amazon, Apple Books, Kobo, Barnes & Noble, Smashwords or another digital retailer, then by all means do so.

Most Tom Kane books are available through major eBook retailers, although prices, editions, collections and bundles may differ.

The choice is yours.

We'd rather you enjoyed the books than worried about where you bought them.

Is there a real person here?

Yes.

The Fiction Bookstore isn't a giant anonymous retailer.

If something goes wrong, contact Reader Support and a real person will help you.

We cannot guarantee that the real person won't be drinking coffee and reading a good book at the time.
